IPL HAIR REMOVAL

Q.  Is it permanent
Clients experience a certain percentage of loss, usually between 15 and 35 percent of what is treated with each visit.

Q.  How many treatments will it take before I’m done?
In the majority of cases, 5 to 10 treatments are necessary on areas where the hair has not been removed from below the skin for 2-3 months using wax, tweezing, or electrolysis. Clients who are tweezing frequently will start off with  more frequent treatments for the first 3 months to treat all of the undergrowth once.

Q.  Do I have to let the hair grow before it’s treated?
No, unlike waxing, you can shave or trim between treatments.  The area needs to be either shaved or buzzed prior to treatment.  It is helpful for the practitioner to see the area grown out the first time to understand the extent of the growth.

Q.  Does it hurt?
There may be some discomfort associated with treatment, but most clients find it extremely tolerable.  If a client is sensitive, we have different ways of reducing discomfort.

Q.  Can I go out in the sun after a treatment?
The skin may be more likely to burn in the sun, so be sure to wear a sun screen after a treatment. It is wise to stay out of the sun for a few days after a treatment.

Q.  Is Laser the same as IPL?
Both technologies are based on the same principle of selective photothermolysis, using heat and light to target unwanted hair and skin issues.  Laser uses one wavelength and IPL uses the full spectrum of visible light.

PHOTO FACIAL
As our skin ages, various factors lead to its degeneration and imperfections in our skin. Advances in the treatment of aging skin have continued to improve, from dermabrasion to chemical peels to laser skin resurfacing. These procedures had to be administered by a doctor, and almost always involved a lengthy recovery period. IPL is the most exciting advancement in skin care because it is designed to treat skin damage in a softer, gentler way with little or no downtime between visits. Treatments are safe, easy and effective for fine lines, rosacea, facial veins, irregular pigmentation, and large pores. Photo Rejuvenation is not limited to the face, because other areas of the body can benefit from photo rejuvenation as well. Areas that are particularly affected by sun and aging are the face, chest, hands, arms, and lower legs.

Q. How does it work?
With a photo facial, the light and heat penetrate into the epidermis and papillary layers of the skin targeting damaged cells to cause a mild thermal trauma in the affected area below the skin without damaging the outer layers of skin. This process is followed by the production of new cells, because it is the body’s natural response to heal and replace old cells with new ones.

Q.  How is this better than a regular facial?
A traditional facial cannot reach the collagen layer that the light is targeting. The light and heat from a photo facial is able to create a mild wound healing effect in the collagen layer, forcing the collagen to react and renew cells.  At the same time, the light is able to lift pigmentation caused by sun damage.

Q.  What can I expect for results?
You will notice an improvement in fine lines, large pores, small veins, pigmented lesions from sun damage, and a more even skin tone and overall healthier look to your skin. Even if you are young and have no issues with your skin, this type of treatment will help to delay the aging process.

Q.  How many visits will I need?
Depending on the amount of skin issues you have, 3 to 6 visits are recommended.  Each visit takes less than 45 minutes

Q.  Are there any side effects?
You should experience a sensation similar to a mild sunburn. Depending on the amount of sun damage, your skin can react with just some mild redness that will subside in an hour or less, or it may take a day or so with minor crusting in areas that have the most problems. Pigmented lesions will get darker after treatment, then form a thin crust before falling off. Telangectasia, (facial veins) will look a bit more prominent before it begins to fade on the same day. Any adverse effects of a photo facial can be covered with makeup, and will be gone in a week or two.

 Q.  Is it painful?
There may be some discomfort associated with treatment, but clients seem to tolerate it without issue.

Q.  Is the light dangerous?
IPL does not use harmful rays such as x-ray or UV rays. This also applies to hair removal and acne.

Q.  Is the treated area red or swollen after treatment?
The treated area may appear slightly pink and feel like a mild sunburn for an hour of more after treatment. Pigmented lesions, capillaries, and rosacea may seem a little more prominent, and the pigmented lesions may form a thin crust for about a week or two before fading completely. The end result will leave skin with an overall improved skin tone.

IPL ACNE TREATMENTS
Acne begins with the over secretion of sebum (natural oils) in your skin, which traps skin cells and does not allow them to shed. The cells build up and clog the pores. These clogged pores trap bacteria inside, and as the bacteria multiply, it results in inflammation and acne.

Q. How does IPL work on acne?
The different wave lengths of light penetrate into clogged pores and trigger a photo-thermal reaction which causes oxygen to be released, thus killing bacteria and reducing inflammation. The heat helps to open clogged pores and speeds up this healing process.

Q.  Can I continue to take prescribed medication during IPL treatments?

Clients taking Accutane must wait 6 months after going off Accutane to have IPL treatments. Other prescription medication and over the counter topical medication creams or cleansers will enhance IPL treatments for acne.

Q.  How many treatments will it take?
An IPL acne treatment might take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the extent of the effected area. For optimal results, treatments should be scheduled twice a week for 4 weeks
